At the heart of Studio Pottery London is the desire to form a community around a shared ethos and love of pottery in all its forms. As the first dedicated open-access members’ studio in central London, it provides somewhere for experienced potters to work and meet like-minded artists, and welcomes beginners through an extensive programme of classes and workshops.
It is the brainchild of Lucy Attwood and Gregory Tingay, who met when Lucy learned throwing at Gregory’s studio. Having previously worked at Christie’s, Lucy has an impressive network in the art world, which opens doors to art fairs, museums and exclusive events for SPL members. Meanwhile Gregory provides a living link to the origins of British Studio Pottery, as he was taught by an early pupil of Bernard Leach in a former life as a monk at Buckfast Abbey. Studio Pottery London builds on that tradition not only in name but in the act of teaching and nurturing this ancient art.
